Flag Fen Viking Festival - Drinking Vessels in Use

Viking Drinking Vessels were made after a commission from Wryngwyrm (pronounced Ringworm)                    Re-enactment Group from Bedford.  These were made with designs inspired by the York Coppergate finds. Made from solid English Sycamore, approx. 80mm high from 100mm timber, with a food safe finish.  The pictures above show the group using them at the Flag Fen Viking Festival on 4th-6th May 2024.  They were very pleased with the finished items and gave website photograph permission on the day.

Following a request made by another Re-enactment Group a large solid English Chestnut Viking Serving Platter 400mm in diameter, and later Viking Plate 300mm in diameter was made, again with a food safe finish.

Viking Style Softwood Bench
Viking Style Softwood Bench Flatpacked

Prototype of a Viking style bench in Scandinavian Softwood made for Cambridge Living History Fair in the Autumn of 2024.  Resulting in my family getting me to put a dragon head on it.

I was recently commissioned to make 2 Solid English Oak Benches for THE GLASGOW VIKINGS                  Re-enactment group, the design was based upon the benches in “The Vikings (Saxon, Norman, Celtic + Viking) Re-enactment - The Village Guide, Third Edition, November 2022, Section D”.

Parts of benches have been found at York, Dublin, Novgorod, Winchester and Oseburg. The Dublin finds were very low. The design was extrapolated from the style shown below to make useable full size benches.  The group were very pleased with their new benches, and sent me pictures of them in use at the Lochgilphead event on 3rd and 4th August 2024 (see pictures below).

Viking Rondel Training Dagger
Large Wooder Rondel Sword

Following a conservation at Cambridge Living History Fair in St Ives, I am now making Wooden Rondels, they are made from one piece of English Ash timber and are approx. 465mm in length.  The blade has a rounded tip for safety.  This type of weapon was used in medieval times during weapons training. Helping to improve swordsmanship without major injury.  These are designed for light training, for practice only.

Please also see the other areas of my gallery, including Shields, Weapons and Mastermyr Chest.

In addition, if anybody is interested in the building of aOseberg Bed I have the wood on the rack and ready to build to specification.  The big question is due you want it Oseberg Size Approx. 1600mm x 1200mm or to fit a modern mattress?
